Seagate has introduced three consumer hard drives with a maximum capacity of 10TB. The HDDs are part of the Guardian series and are known as Barracuda Pro, IronWolf and SkyHawk. The discs rotate at a speed of 7200rpm.

The different models have different applications, for example the Barracuda Pro is aimed at use in desktops. This model has a maximum write speed of 220MB/s and a cache of 256MB, in addition to a five-year warranty. The IronWolf model is NAS capable, speeds up to 210MB/s, also has 256MB cache, and comes with a three-year warranty.

The SkyHawk variant is aimed at use in combination with surveillance cameras, Seagate writes in a press release. There is no further information about this model, as part of the redesigned Seagate site is inaccessible. All models are available in the standard 3.5″ format and with different storage capacities. According to Anandtech, the 10TB variants are helium-filled, just like the previously released 10TB HDDs for data centers, however this information is not reflected in the communication by Seagate .

The Barracuda Pro is available in 6TB, 8TB and 10TB capacities. The IronWolf has the same capacities and adds variants of 1TB, 2TB, 3TB and 4TB. The Barracuda Pro and IronWolf drives are available now for a suggested retail price of $535 and $470 respectively for the 10TB versions. That is converted about 485 euros and 426 euros without VAT. The SkyHawk will be available in a year for a price of USD 460, which is approximately 417 euros.

Seagate is also coming out with new sshdds under the name FireCuda. In 2.5″ format, it is available with a maximum capacity of 1TB and in 3.5″ version, the model is available with a capacity of 2TB. The hard drive manufacturer had to cut jobs again last week and let 6,500 employees leave. The company is restructuring as a result of declining sales.
