Apple calls the latter Handoff and the iCloud Drive plays a major role in this. Apple’s personal online storage service is standard in OS X 10.10 Yosemite, and the software displays the iCloud Drive in the Finder as a virtual drive.

You can also use AirDrop to transfer files back and forth from an OS X to an iOS system. You can also use AirPlay in combination with an Apple TV without having to go through a WiFi home network: the connection is made via WiFi Direct.
