Mac minis with Haswell processors come out with a starting price of 519 euros

After two years, Apple has announced new models of the Mac mini. These have Intel Haswell processors, some with an Iris GPU. Furthermore, there is support for Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Thunderbolt connections are available. The sale will start immediately on Thursday.

During the presentation, Apple described the new Mac Mini as “the most efficient desktop” in terms of power consumption, although no precise usage figures were given. The core of the Mac Mini in the three base models is a Haswell processor from Intel.

The cheapest model of 519 euros has a Core i5 dual-core with a clock speed of 1.4GHz with HD Graphics 5000 GPU, in combination with 4GB DDR3 and a 500GB HDD. A model with Core i5 with a clock speed of 2.6GHz and Iris GPU costs 719 euros and for that amount you also get 8GB of memory and a 1TB HDD. The most expensive model is a variant with Core i5 with a clock speed of 2.8GHz and Iris GPU, which also has 8GB of memory but also a 1TB Fusion drive. The Fusion drive is Apple’s name for a flash cached HDD. This variant of the Mac mini costs 1019 euros.

Two Thunderbolt connections and an HDMI port are available for making connections, and wireless connections can be made with Wi-Fi 802.11ac. There are also four USB ports and an Ethernet connection.

The new Mac Mini comes two years after Apple announced its most recent model. Normally, the Cupertino company refreshes its products every year. Customers can buy the Mac Mini with Haswell processor right away, for a starting price of 519 euros.
