Worm jumps from Symbian phone to PC

Spread the love

F-Secure makes notification of an ‘old-school’ worm called Mobler that only starts its malicious work after activation of the user. Mobler copies itself in the form of an installation file to an existing memory card upon launch, where it disguises itself as a system folder. Users who open this file then become infected. The worm hides the Windows folder and copies itself to as many folders as possible on writable media, such as hard drives, memory cards, and floppy disks. Furthermore, the piece of malware disables Task Manager, Regedit, the ability to view folder properties and the search function in Windows. Finally, Mobler is able to launch a DoS attack against www.bsi.ac.id. The chance that this worm will cause a major problem is very small, because there are very few Symbian users who connect their phones to many different computers, so the spread rate will remain very low.
