WD will disable remote access for My Cloud OS 3 devices in April 2022

Western Digital will end support for NAS devices with My Cloud OS 3 on April 15, 2022. Devices that cannot be upgraded to My Cloud OS 5 can only be used locally from then on. The older OS versions have vulnerabilities.

Users must upgrade to My Cloud OS 5 by January 15, 2022, WD writes on its community website. Older versions will no longer be supported after that, and as of April 15, 2022, WD will shut down functionality for NAS devices running My Cloud OS 3 and older.

WD will provide more details about this in an email to users. Devices that cannot be upgraded will no longer be remotely accessible by mid-April and can only be used over a local network. The web interface and My Cloud app will then no longer work. There will be no more updates after that and technical support is no longer available.

WD says it will stop supporting older NAS devices because critical security updates are only available for My Cloud OS 5. The company recommends users of older devices that cannot be upgraded to disconnect and secure them from the Internet. with a strong unique password.

WD has posted a list of My Cloud devices and the availability of updates online. Certain versions of the My Cloud and My Cloud Mirror devices cannot be supplied with the new software. That also applies to the My Cloud EX2 and EX4. Those NAS systems came out around 2014.
