James Dyson, inventor of the bagless vacuum cleaner, announces in a letter to employees of vacuum cleaner manufacturer Dyson that the company is working on an electric car. That vehicle should be on the market in 2020.

Specific details about the car gives Dyson not in his letter; he states that the market is very competitive and that it is important to keep the information about the car confidential. He does say that Dyson is investing 2 billion pounds, converted 2.3 billion euros, in the project and that a team of four hundred employees is working on the car.

The team is made up of Dyson engineers and ‘individuals from the automotive industry’. According to James Dyson, the project will grow rapidly. It’s not the first time Dyson has entered the auto industry. The founder states that he started working on a filter for diesel engines in 1988. A prototype was ready in 1993, but the project was halted due to lack of interest from the car industry.
