Dying Light will not be released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Developer Techland has concluded that the game requires too much performance to run on the older consoles. The game is only available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

The developer has stated his choice on Facebook. Techland says it has been working on various features for three years, so that Dying Light is ultimately experienced as next-gen. However, the consoles have to deliver a certain amount of power to bring about that experience. For example, the developer claims that approximately two hundred thousand objects can be displayed simultaneously. In combination with the company’s own lighting technology, the latest platforms would already be pushed to their limits.

Dying Light is said to have been tested on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but Techland has concluded that the older consoles fall short when it comes to performance and the company simply doesn’t want to compromise on graphics and gameplay.

It has therefore been decided to drop the older consoles and only continue with the version for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The survival horror game with day-night cycle in an open world is expected to be released on January 30, 2015.
