Software Update: Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.2.1

Microsoft has released a new update for its Office 2008 suite for the Mac OS X platform. The office suite includes Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Entourage, as well as a large number of wizards and tools to make processing texts, images and sounds easier. The version counter is now at 12.2.1 and includes the following announcement:

This update fixes an issue that prevents users from opening some Office documents.

Improvements for all Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac applications

Compatibility has been improved. This update fixes an issue that causes Office 2008 for Mac to display an error message that resembles the following:

    Microsoft Excel cannot open the file. You may have to download the latest updates for Office for Mac. Do you want to visit the Microsoft Web site for more information?

This issue occurs when you try to open documents that have one of the file types that are listed in the following table:
