Ray-Ban to release collection of Google Glass glasses

Eyewear brands Ray-Ban and Oakley are going to release versions of Google’s Glass smart glasses. The parent company of the two brands has announced this. It is unclear when the ‘designer versions’ of Google Glass should be released.

Google and the parent company behind Ray-Ban speak highly of the products they will be releasing together. “The first collection from this collaboration combines high-end technology with avant-garde design,” claims Luxottica, which also owns Oakley in addition to Ray-Ban. The glasses are said to be made with ‘attention to detail’ and represent a ‘dramatic step forward’ for the smart glasses market. Luxottica and Google show no products to support those claims.

It’s been clear since the inception of Google Glass’s “explorer” program nearly a year ago that Google wants to partner with established eyewear designers to bring variants of Glass to market. The collaboration with Luxottica is the first time that a well-known name from the eyewear world has joined forces with Google.
