Network equipment manufacturer Nokia wants to buy the Finnish software company Comptel. Both companies have announced this. Comptel makes software for providers, to which Nokia often supplies all the hardware.

Nokia offers a total of almost 350 million euros for the Finnish company. Shareholders have until March 24 to sell their shares to Nokia, according to information from Comptel. The Finnish maker of network equipment wants to own at least ninety percent of the shares. After that, the authorities still have to agree. The companies believe the acquisition could be completed in the spring.

It is not the first or largest acquisition that Nokia has made since the sale of the telephone branch to Microsoft a few years ago. The acquisition for about 5.5 billion euros gave the Finnish company a lot of cash. The largest acquisition was that of the French Alcatel-Lucent for more than 15 billion euros. A smaller takeover was that of the French company Withings for 170 million euros.

Nokia is about to re-enter the smartphone market through the company HMD. Nokia has licensed its name to HMD, which released the Nokia 6 in China in January. The manufacturer will show its first smartphone for the western market at the Mobile World Congress telecom fair in a few weeks.
