Blocking unlogged users on the web version of Twitter is a “temporary emergency measure,” according to Elon Musk. According to him, ‘drastic and immediate action’ was needed because a lot of data was being scraped.
According to Musk there was so much data was scraped ‘that it degraded the service for normal users’. In a later tweet he clarifies: “Almost every company working on AI, from start-ups to some of the largest companies, scrapes enormous amounts of data. It’s a bit of a pain to have to bring tons of servers online on an emergency basis, just because of the excessive valuation of an AI company. to facilitate start-ups”.
Since Friday, the web version of Twitter is no longer accessible to non-logged in users. The platform asks users to log in with a full-screen pop-up. If they don’t, they will be sent back to the social media’s homepage. Musk does not say when exactly this measure will be lifted. He just says that this should happen ‘soon’.
This will be unlocked shortly. Per my earlier post, drastic & immediate action was necessary due to EXTREME levels of data scraping.
