Mozilla VPN revenue is up 450 percent in a year

Mozilla’s VPN service revenue grew 450 percent from 2020 to 2021. In total, the company had a turnover of 466 million dollars in 2020, about the same as in 2019. In 2021, Mozilla expects to have a turnover of more than 500 million dollars.

Mozilla explains the VPN subscription service’s success by launching the service in nine new markets in 2021. It is not known exactly how much revenue Mozilla has obtained from the VPN service. By “new offerings of core products, reviving the ad-tech ecosystem and releasing new products,” Mozilla expects to reach sales of more than half a billion dollars by 2021.

Mozilla has recently had to lay off many employees, saying it has taken longer than expected to develop its paid services, which Mozilla says is partly the result of the corona crisis. Those services were specifically intended to increase Mozilla’s revenue. In total, more than a quarter of Mozilla’s employees have been fired.
