From January 15, 2020, Microsoft will show a full-screen warning in Windows 7. It will state that the operating system is no longer supported and that users are at risk. Support for Windows 7 will end on January 14.

Microsoft already showed notifications on Windows 7 systems about the approaching end of support, but when the time comes, those warnings will take up the entire screen. This is evident from the release notes of the monthly Windows 7 update that was released on Tuesday.

The warning is displayed on computers with Windows 7 Service Pack 1. This will apply to Windows 7 Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate. Windows 7 Pro users who have paid for extended support will not see the notification.

It is not the first time that Microsoft shows full-screen notifications in Windows 7. In 2016, the company already did so when the period in which it was still possible to upgrade to Windows 10 for free.

Despite the approaching end of support for Windows 7, the operating system is still widely used. Netmarketshare calculated earlier this month that Windows 7’s market share is still more than 25 percent.
