HP is working on a VR headset codenamed Copper. The headset, which works with Windows Mixed Reality, has an LCD with a resolution of 2160×2160 pixels per eye, a much higher resolution than headsets like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive Pro.

The HP Copper, which probably will not be the final name, has LCDs with an RGB pixel format, which should make the screen much sharper than, for example, the 1440×1600 pixels of the Samsung Odyssey and HTC Vive Pro. HP’s current VR headset from 2017 has a resolution of 1440×1440 pixels per eye. The viewing angle is about the same as with previous headsets, Road to VR reports based on a preview of the headset. HP has already shown the headset, but has not announced it yet and did not want to give details.

The Copper also has a lower weight than its predecessor, which weighs 830 grams. Weight and resolution were the main points HP wanted to improve upon. The headset will mainly be intended for companies, but it will also be available for purchase for consumers.

When HP will offer the Copper and at what price is still unknown. HP also wants to keep other details secret. Taking pictures was not allowed, but HP did publish a render of the design, which looks more like the Oculus Rift than the previous Windows Mixed Reality headset from HP.
