Nest will collaborate with LG and Philips Hue, among others. In this way, the companies can have their products communicate with Google’s smart equipment. For example, Philips Hue lamps must flash when there is a risk of carbon monoxide or fire.

Google has announced this, writes The Verge, among others. There are fifteen companies in total. In addition to LG and Philips, August Smart Lock will also collaborate with Google. That company has developed a lock that can be unlocked with a smartphone. Google itself gives an example. If a person owns both products, they can communicate with each other and, for example, the heating can be turned off the moment a person locks their doors.

Another example that the Hue lamps from Philips will flash when the smoke detector goes off. That should warn a person of possible danger. An LG smart fridge can also save energy if Nest notices that no one is at home.

Google has previously announced that it is working on an open development platform for Nest. Devices and systems that support the smart thermostat and smoke detector will have a ‘Works with Nest’ designation. Nest has already worked with Mercedes and Whirlpool.
