Android’s mascot, bugdroid, gets a new design with the main change being a 3D effect. The new mascot has a slightly rounder appearance than before and black instead of white eyes. The new bug droid should be available on smartphones from this year.

Since 2019, the bugdroid has emerged more prominently as Google’s mascot, writes the company. Google wanted bugdroid to become more ‘dynamic’ and therefore changed its appearance. According to Google, this new look should have ‘more dimension and more character’.

Bugdroid sometimes appears only as a head and sometimes with a full body; Google says it has also modified this entire body with a 3D effect. The main change here is that the body is rounder and no longer has a flat bottom, which the 2d mascot had. Google says it has given bugdroid a 3D effect to make the mascot easier to use in both the physical and digital worlds.

Along with the bugdroid change, Google is also introducing a new logo for Android. As before, the logo is the word ‘Android’, although the ‘a’ is now capitalized. Previously, the entire logo consisted of lowercase letters. In addition, the font has been slightly changed and is rounder in shape. That’s more in line with Android’s Material design. Google reports that this updated logo and new bugdroid mascot should appear on Android smartphones and elsewhere starting this year.
