Gmail for iOS gets customizable swipes

Google has expanded its Gmail app for iOS with customizable swipe actions. The function, which has been available on the Android platform for almost a year, should make managing and organizing emails a bit easier again.

Until now, iOS users in Gmail could only delete emails with a swipe. After the update that is being rolled out these days, the user can set a swipe action of their choice: archive the mail, delete, move, set to read/unread or ‘snooze’ to be reminded of the message at a later time. An action can be assigned to both a swipe to the left and to the right. User can set desired actions in Gmail app under Settings, Swipe actions.

According to Google, the new actions do not only apply to emails, but also to Gmail notifications. Then they do not work with a swipe, but via the 3D Touch function of recent iPhones or simply by holding down the notification a little longer. Google started rolling out the update this week, but it could take a few more weeks for the new feature to reach all Gmail users with an iPhone or iPad.
