Denon has announced a new generation of its Heos multi-room speaker system, Heos Series 2 or HS2. The second generation contains four Heos speakers, an amplifier and preamplifier.

The new line of Heos speakers, Heos 1, 3, 5 and 7, the Heos Amp amplifier and Heos Link wireless preamp are all equipped with Bluetooth and the ability to play so-called ‘high resolution audio’. In other words, the system now also supports uncompressed lossless formats, such as flac, wav, and alac. Denon says it will soon also be possible to play dsd, the audio format of sacd, and aiff.

The hi-fi manufacturer released the first line of Heos products in 2014 to compete with Sonos. The first generation did not yet have bluetooth, but only an aux and USB input. With the new generation, all speakers have Bluetooth, an Ethernet connection for the wired home network, WiFi and volume buttons. The Heos 7 also has a headphone output.

For the Heos Amp and Link, Denon opted for more connections, including an Ethernet connection, USB port, an optical digital input, a mini-jack and RCA inputs. Analogue sources can also be connected and played via Heos speakers.

The Heos products can be operated via Windows Phone, PC, Mac, Android and iOS devices and support various streaming services, such as Spotify, SoundCloud, TIDAL, Deezer and TuneIn. In addition, it is possible to stream from the local home network.

Prices of the Heos speaker line start at 249 euros for the Heos 1 HS2. Heos 3 HS2 costs 349 euros, Heos 5 HS2 449 and Heos 7 HS2 599. For the Heos Amp HS2 you have to pay 579 euros and for the Link HS2 399.
