Blizzard extends ‘double XP buff’ WoW to pre-patch Shadowlands expansion

Originally, World of Warcraft players were supposed to receive double XP until April 20 as a reward for staying indoors during the corona pandemic. Due to the popularity of the event, it will now be extended until the pre-patch for the upcoming Shadowlands expansion comes out.

However, it is not yet clear when that pre-patch will be released. In fact, it’s not clear when the entire Shadowlands expansion will be released either. It is scheduled for sometime in 2020. Kotaku writes that “because the expansion has only just entered the alpha testing phase, players can expect to get double XP for several more months.”

The negative reactions to the announcement of the next event may have played a part. Under the announcement for the Impressive Infuence event, which kicks off on April 20, many players expressed dissatisfaction with the way things are going. They feared that the XP buff would actually end as the next event would start at the same time. A few hours later, however, the redeeming word from Blizzard came.
