Xiaomi has revealed that its upcoming Mi 9 smartphone, which will be announced in China on February 20, will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855. The device also has a 48-megapixel camera on the back.

A Xiaomi spokesperson says on Twitter that the Mi 9 will have the Snapdragon 855, without giving further details. The American chip designer presented the Snapdragon 855 in December last year. This high-end soc has a ‘prime core’ at a maximum of 2.84GHz, with three performance cores at a maximum of 2.42GHz.

On Xiaomi’s own English-language forum, a moderator posted some photos that would have been taken with the device. It can be concluded that the phone has a 48-megapixel camera. On the back are a total of three cameras. Furthermore, the Mi 9 is provided with a coating, so that the device gets different colors depending on the lighting.

The recently released official photos of the Mi 9 almost only show the side and back of the device. As a result, it is not yet possible to say with certainty whether the smartphone has a notch for the front camera, or whether a hole has been chosen in the screen. XDA Developers previously posted unofficial photos of the front showing a teardrop-shaped notch at the top of the screen.

Xiaomi recently announced that the new device will be unveiled on February 20 in Beijing. According to previous rumors, the device will receive a 12-megapixel variant and a 3D depth sensor in addition to the 48-megapixel camera. Furthermore, the phone would have a 6.4 “OLED screen and a 3500mAh battery with a fast charging capacity of 32W.
