Xiaomi has posted a teaser on Chinese social network Weibo that seems to indicate the arrival of a new own soc. The post refers to a “self-developed chip” and uses a Chinese word that translates to “Surge.” That is the name of his previous, own chip.

The teaser, posted by Android Authroity, among others, also speaks of the date March 29, so next Monday. Xiaomi’s own soc would not be a first for the company. In 2017 it already came on the market with the Surge S1, which was in the Mi 5C. At the time, that was a midrange soc that was in benchmarks between a Snapdragon 625 and a Helio P20. Whether this new soc will also end up in the midrange is not clear at the moment, however.

March 29 is also the date when Xiaomi will unveil its new Mi Mix phone. It is already known that he will get a camera with a liquid lens. A motor in the camera seems to press the liquid into the right shape, in order to get the desired focus and focal length. This would allow both macro and zoom photos to be taken with one camera. Furthermore, Xiaomi speaks other posts also of a new battery technology that will be in the upcoming Mi 11 Ultra. This ‘silicon-oxygen anode’ battery should charge faster and be thinner. Finally, the Mi 11 Pro will also be shown on Monday.
