Xiaomi may be working on four new smartphones with a 108-megapixel camera. Directions for this can be found in a new update to Xiaomi’s Mi Gallery App. The phones are likely to be equipped with Samsung’s Isocell Bright HMX sensor.

A recent update to the Mi Gallery App recently added support for four devices that can take 108-megapixel photos. This specifically concerns telephones that are internally called ‘tucana’, ‘draco’, ‘umi’ and ‘cmi’. Previously, similar indications were found for two phones with a pop-up camera. These later turned out to be the Mi 9T and Mi 9T Pro. The update is a good indication that it concerns four new smartphones.

Previously, a similar situation occurred around the arrival of phones with 48-megapixel cameras. Back then, several smartphone manufacturers did not support the ability to view such high-resolution photos in full size. When the first devices with a 48-megapixel sensor came out, this was solved with a similar software update. This now seems to be happening again with the arrival of phones with 108 megapixel cameras.

In addition, Samsung already announced the Isocell Bright HMX sensor last month. This sensor was made in collaboration with Xiaomi. The sensor has a maximum resolution of 12,032×9024 pixels, which equates to approximately 108.5 megapixels. In addition, 6k video recording at thirty frames per second is supported. The sensor size is 1/1.33″ and the pixel size is 0.8μm.

Last month, Xiaomi hinted that it would use Samsung’s new sensor in the future. It was speculated that this would be the Mi Mix 4. Now there seem to be four new Xiaomi devices in the making.
