Xiaomi announces Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro with 108-megapixel camera and 90Hz screen

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has unveiled its Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro smartphones. The phones have an OLED screen with a refresh rate of 90Hz and the same primary 108-megapixel camera as the Mi Note 10 that appeared at the end of last year.

The phones both have an OLED screen of 15.4×7.1 cm with a diagonal of 6.67″, a screen ratio of 19:9 and a resolution of 2340×1080 pixels. The screen has a refresh rate of 90Hz.

The Mi 10 smartphones feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865-soc. The soc has eight Kryo 585 cores clocked at up to 2.84GHz and based on Arm’s Cortex-A77 design. The gpu is the Adreno 650. Xiaomi combines the soc with 8GB or 12GB lpddr5 memory and 128GB or 256GB of ufs 3.0 storage.

The primary camera is the same as in the Mi Note 10, the Samsung S5KHMX with 108 megapixels at 0.8 microns in size, good for a sensor of about 69 square millimeters. Unlike the sensor in the Galaxy S20 Ultra, the HMX sensor has a quadbayer layout, with groups of 2×2 pixels with the same color filter. With the S20 Ultra, these are groups of 3×3 pixels. The Mi 10 has a lens for this with seven elements, the Pro version has a lens with eight elements.

Both phones also have an ultra-wide-angle camera, but only the Pro version has a telephoto camera. The Mi 10 has a macro camera and depth sensor, the Pro has a ‘portrait camera’ with a resolution of twelve megapixels.

The phones will be released in China this month. The Mi 10 costs 4000 yuan in the cheapest configuration, currently converted about 525 euros. The Mi 10 Pro comes out at 5000 yuan, converted around 660 euros. Xiaomi probably had planned to announce the Mi 10 for Europe ahead of telecom show MWC, but the Chinese manufacturer canceled its event after it emerged that the show will not go ahead due to fears of the spread of the coronavirus 2019-nCoV.
