VLC is available for download for the first time for Windows Phone. The app was in closed beta until this weekend, but is now available as a test version for everyone to download from the Windows Phone Store. It is unknown when the final version will be released.

VLC Media Player has been in the Windows Phone Store since Friday, according to the store’s page, which WindowsCentral noted. The app requires Windows Phone 8.1, a version that can run on all devices that shipped with Windows Phone 8.0.

The app can play mkvs and oggs, but also flac files. It is currently a beta version, which may contain bugs. It is not yet known when the final version will be released. It had been clear for some time that the app was coming.
