WhatsApp gets the option to hide chat messages behind code

Meta comes with an option to hide WhatsApp chats behind a code. It is already possible to hide chat conversations in a ‘Locked Chats’ folder, but now these conversations can be protected with a code.

Users must first hide the desired one-on-one and group conversations in the Locked Chats folder, let Meta know. It is then possible to hide that folder with a code. In addition to letters and special characters, emojis can also be used for that code. If users hide the folder with a code, it will no longer be visible by default in the chat list. The folder becomes visible when users enter the code in the search bar.

The function to hide chat conversations in WhatsApp in the Locked chats folder was already added last May. This can be opened using a fingerprint or password, after which all hidden chat conversations are visible. However, until now the Locked Chats folder was always visible in the chat list, but it now becomes possible to hide this folder with the secret code as an extra layer of privacy.

Finally, it should become easier to lock chat conversations. Previously this was only possible via the chat settings, but now this should also be possible from the chat list by pressing and holding the chat conversation in question for some time. According to Meta, the feature will be rolled out immediately and should become available worldwide “in the coming months.”
