Microsoft has made the Cocreator image generation feature available to all users in Paint. The feature is based on DALL-E 3 and allows users to generate images based on a text prompt.

The Cocreator button was added to the stable version of Microsoft Paint without announcement, discovered Windows Central. The feature allows users to enter a text command and choose from a number of drawing styles, such as pixel art or ink sketch, and then generate a number of images. Users can then choose one of those images and edit it within the program.

An infinite number of images cannot be generated; users receive fifty credits and each image generated uses one credit. This works in a similar way to the previously released Image Creator tool in Microsoft Bing, which also runs on OpenAI’s Dall-E 3 model. The Cocreator function was already tested in an internal build in September.

More and more updates for Microsoft Paint have been appearing lately. Previously, the company introduced layers and PNG support in the graphics editor and it has also recently become possible to automatically remove backgrounds from images.
