A burglar who stole a Macintosh laptop only had a short time to enjoy it. The robbed man managed to get the built-in webcam to take a picture of the thief via the internet, after which he was quickly caught.

When they arrived home on the evening of April 27, the three residents of an apartment in Westchester, New York made an unpleasant discovery: a burglary had occurred. All sorts of electronics, including two laptops and two flat screens, were gone, as well as DVDs and computer games. One of the stolen laptops belonged to a woman who worked at the Apple store at the local mall.

Last Tuesday, a colleague of the victim noticed that the stolen Apple laptop was on the Internet and immediately called her. The woman then went to the Internet with another computer and contacted the laptop with the Back to my Mac program. Then she activated the built-in camera to see who was behind it. At first she only saw an empty chair, but later a man came and sat at the computer. She also found photos of another man using the laptop.

She didn’t know either man, but when she showed the photos to her roommates, one of them recognized them as friends of a friend who had been visiting the apartment a few weeks ago. It turned out to be 20-year-old Ian Frias and 23-year-old Edmon Shahikian. After the victim took the photos to the police, they were able to arrest the burglars the next day. The vast majority of the stolen items were recovered from them reports lohud.
