Valve launches digital gift cards on Steam

Valve has added an option on Steam for users to give their friends a digital gift card. The selected amount will be added to the payee’s Steam Wallet. Physical gift cards have been on sale for some time now.

Digital gift cards are only for sale on Steam and givers must therefore also have an account on the Valve platform. The cards are available with amounts of 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 euros. The cards can be purchased with the common payment methods on Steam and given by selecting someone from the friends list. That person must be on the friends list for at least three days.

It has been possible to buy physical gift cards for Steam for some time now. These contain a code that can be entered on Valve’s sales platform, after which the amount of the card is added to the Steam wallet. These cards are sold at toy stores, among others.

The announcement of the new digital gift cards comes just before the start of a new Steam Sale. According to game website Kotaku, the Steam Halloween Sale will start on Thursday evening and will last until November 1. The Steam Autumn Sale was set to take place from November 22 to 28, followed by the Steam Winter Sale from December 21 to January 4.
