Users Edison Mail had access to other people’s mailboxes
Edison Mail users were temporarily able to access other users’ email accounts due to a bug. Accounts that belonged to others were added to the wrong users’ apps. The update has been undone.
According to The Verge, the problem appeared to be limited to the iOS version of the app. Users who publicized the issue wrote that without any additional action, they suddenly had other users’ accounts in the Edison app, with presumably full access to read and write emails. An user reports that someone else has deleted his emails. The update in question would add the ability to sync app data across multiple devices.
In a response to The Verge, Edison Software wrote that “a small percentage” had experienced the problem, that the update has been recalled and that the affected users are being contacted by the company. On Twitter, the developers are asking if affected users want to delete the app data and change their password. Affected users are also logged out.
Edison Mail has over a million installs on the Play Store and is ranked 115th in the App Store’s most popular productivity apps.
