487,000 players simultaneously cranked up Terraria after the developer released the last major update. There are more than ever. After nine years of development, game studio Re-Logic considers the game complete.

The Journey’s End update is big, according to the creators: “New ways to play the game, over 1000 new items to find and craft, new bosses to challenge, and even a complete overhaul of all of the game’s content for balance, graphics quality and mechanics – really, Journey’s End has something for everyone”.

The biggest update is probably Journey Mode, where players can adjust the game’s difficulty at any time. In addition, there is Master Mode, which is supposed to take the difficulty to new heights. The full 45-page changelog is on the official Terraria forum, but it’s down from all web traffic at the time of writing.

According to Steamcharts, the number of 487,000 players is a tripling of the old record; 159,000 players, as of June of 2015. At the time of writing, it is the fourth most played game, behind CS:GO, Dota 2 and PUBG. As a result, the game is currently being played more than GTA V. The game is also available for many other platforms, including Android, iOS, the PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
