Toyota is in talks with Uber about using Uber’s autonomous driving technology, Japanese media reported. The two companies have been working together on autonomous driving vehicles for some time.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi is said to have had a meeting with Toyota last week about the installation of Uber’s technology for autonomous driving in minivans from the Japanese car manufacturer. This was reported by the Japanese business newspaper Nikkei on Friday, according to Reuters.

Totyota does not deny that talks are underway. “We have been regularly exchanging information about autonomous driving with Uber for some time,” said a spokeswoman. Toyota is one of the car manufacturers that Uber has partnered with in the field of autonomous driving. The manufacturer has invested in Uber.

Uber also works with Volvo, Daimler and Ford. The company hopes to be able to use autonomous driving for its taxi service, but also wants to supply the technology to partner companies. Among other things, it is engaged in a competition with Alphabets Waymo, which collaborates with Lyft.
