Video platform TikTok has released a music distribution service. By distributing music via SoundOn, artists can immediately use their own music within TikTok and parent company ByteDance helps to promote the music on the platform.

The platform is called SoundOn and is live in Indonesia, Brazil, the United States and the United Kingdom, TikTok said. SoundOn will compete with DistroKid and TuneCore, among others, TechCrunch notes. The music is not only available on TikTok and in the apps of parent company ByteDance, but also on Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer and other music streaming services, among others.

Artists get 100 percent of the revenue on third-party streaming services the first year and 90 percent in the following years. On our own ByteDance platforms, it concerns a payout of 100 percent for an indefinite period of time. In addition to TikTok, ByteDance has a music streaming service called Rosso in some countries.

In addition, TikTok promises to help artists promote their music, including on its own video platform. On TikTok, many videos appear with music underneath. The medium has put many songs in the spotlight in recent years, which subsequently grew into hits. Whether and when SoundOn will be released in the Benelux is unknown.
