Subnautica and its standalone expansion Subnautica: Below Zero are coming to Nintendo Switch sometime in 2021. The original game was released on PC as an early version in late 2014 and didn’t make its way to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 until four years later.

In the released announcement trailer and in a brief explanation, only 2021 is mentioned, while Nintendo shows ‘early 2021’ as the release period on the Subnautica game page and the expansion. The developer, Unknown Worlds, has partnered with Shiny Shoe and Unity Professional to enable the port of the two games for the Switch console. Further details on the port’s graphics capabilities have not yet been announced.

In the survival game Subnautica, the player lands on a hostile planet called 4546B. In order to survive, the (deep) ocean must be used and explored to collect things, so that a base and a special diving suit can be built and more information is gathered about the planet and the reasons for the crash on the planet. In addition, the player must also pay attention to his water, food and oxygen supply and survive collisions with the many enemy beasts.

Subnautica was released for Windows as an Early Access version in late 2014, after which the title was not officially released for Windows and macOS until January 2018. Versions for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 followed at the end of 2018. Subnautica: Below Zero is only available for Windows and macOS and cannot be played on consoles yet.
