Software Update: WinRAR 5.50 Beta 2

Spread the love

RAR Labs has released the second beta release of version 5.50 of its RAR and WinRAR archiving tools. This popular compression tool is available for a variety of operating systems, including Windows, Linux, and macOS. The program handles the most common formats – including rar, zip, cab, arj, lzh, tar, gz, ace, uue, bz2, jar, iso, 7z and z – has a skinnable interface, and support for Zip64 and multivolume -cab files. The following changes and improvements have been made in this release:

New:

  • Previous versions ignored files with invalid UTF-8 names inside of ZIP archives. Now WinRAR extracts such files, even though their names may include arbitrary text after unpacking.

Bug fixed:

  • 5.50 beta 1 could crash when extracting some of broken RAR4 archives;
  • “Settings/Viewer/Unpack everything for” was ignored for files matching “Settings/Archives/File types to open as archives first” masks. Now it is changed, so “Unpack everything for” has a higher precedence for archived files. Files inside of archive matching “Unpack everything for” masks are processed according to that option even if they are also matched by “File types to open as archives first” masks.
