Google promises to help creators with several ways to use its voice control services. A first project is a hardware kit for a Google Home-style device that is offered in collaboration with the Raspberry Pi foundation.

The latest edition of The MagPi, the official magazine for the Raspberry Pi, includes a kit offered in partnership with Google. The kit consists of a Google Voice Hardware Accessory on Top board, a stereo microphone board, an arcade button and wiring.

Combined with a Raspberry Pi 3 and software that can plug into the Google Assistant SDK and Google Cloud Speech API, hobbyists can create their own version of the Google Home, or develop other voice-enabled applications. The housing is made of cardboard.

The kit is an Artificial Intelligence Yourself project from Google. For now, purchasing The MagPi is the only way to get it. Billy Rutledge, who leads the AIY projects at Google, promises Wired more projects that will allow creators to use voice interfaces. In addition, the Raspberry Pi foundation is considering selling the kit separately, without providing more details.
