Spread the love

Oracle has released the eighth update to VirtualBox version 4.2, but the website has been down for some time due to technical issues. VirtualBox can be used to install other operating systems in a virtual environment on a computer. In this way it is possible to use different operating systems on the same hardware side by side and at the same time. VirtualBox is available for Windows XP and above, OS X, Linux, and Solaris, and is capable of many guest operating systems to turn.

Version 4.2 of VirtualBox brings, among other things, improved support for Windows 8. In addition, Linux, Solaris and OS X now allow virtual machines to be started at boot time and files can be copied to Linux hosts using drag&drop. In version 4.2.16, the following changes and improvements have also been made:

  • Storage: fixed a crash when hotplugging an empty DVD drive to the VM
  • Storage: fixed a crash when a guest read from a DVD drive attached to the SATA controller under certain circumstances
  • EFI: don’t fail with 64-bit guests on 32-bit hosts (bug #11456)
  • Autostart: fixed VM startup on OS X
  • Windows hosts: native Windows 8 controls
  • Windows hosts: restore native style on Vista 32
  • Windows hosts / guests: Windows 8.1 adaptations (bug #11899)
