Software Update: Total Commander 8.50 Beta 12

Another beta release of Total Commander version 8.50 has appeared, the twelfth already. This program can be used as a replacement for Windows Explorer. Splitting the image in half makes it easy to copy files, but the program can do much more. There are various ways to modify files, there is a built-in ftp client and a multirename tool, and there is support for a large number of compression formats. Furthermore, the functionality can be plugins be expanded. Since version 8.00 there are separate downloads for 32bit and 64bit environments.

New in version 8.50 is, among other things, that when copying, moving or deleting folders or files, all items that do not cause problems are handled first and that the user is only asked at the end for the items that cause problems. Furthermore, there is support for touch scenes and screens with a high resolution, and the search takes place in a separate process, so that the main screen remains available. The following changes and improvements have also been made in this version:

Added:

• “Save tabs on both sides to file” now also works when the other panel does not have any tabs (saves the current directory) (32/64)
• F5 copy: While counting total size and number of files, show ‘?’ to the left of the value to indicate that the total isn’t reached (32/64)

Fixed:

• Handle more file system calls in background thread, so they can be aborted, eg when a server is down (32/64)
• Crash on Alt+F3 (external viewer) with files on ftp server or in file system plugin when using new auto re-upload method (32/64)
• Auto-complete: .. within path not handled correctly (32/64)
• Don’t offer to use new auto re-upload method on Windows 9x/ME because the watch dir function isn’t available (32)
• WatchDirs option: New file not appearing in both panels when both show the same directory (32/64)
• Inplace rename: Do not try to place cursor on new name if the entered name contains a / or in the middle (32/64)
• Opening file items in control panel – all control panel elements no longer working (folders must be opened via context menu) (32)
• Open archive in already running instance (via /O switch) only placed cursor on archive, even without /A switch (32/64)
• Rename “a.txt” to “b.txt” -> existing file “b.txt” was overwritten without warning (32/64)
• cd stuff a not working if subdir “stuff ” existed, but subdir “stuff a” did not (32/64)
• FTP: In case of a download error (eg disk full), show name of target file which couldn’t be downloaded (32/64)
• Duplicate file finder: When searching by plugin fields only, sort each result group by file name (before: it was undefined) (32/64)
