Software Update: Postbox 1.1.2

Postbox is an email client that originated in Mozilla’s Thunderbird. The developers have plenty of options and improvements to it added and it is possible to use the functionality with extensions to expand further. It should be noted, however, that the add-ons for Thunderbird cannot be used without modifications. Postbox supports pop3, imap, and smtp on both Mac OS X and Windows; a Linux variant is currently being considered. The developers released version 1.1.2 a few days ago with the following announcement and list of changes:

New Support for OmniFocus and Things

We’re excited to announce Postbox 1.1.2, which brings new support for OmniFocus and Things! These powerful integrations enable you to quickly convert emails into tasks, and to link tasks to emails – helping you organize and to get more done with less effort.

To get started, download the most current versions of Postbox and OmniFocus or Things, and make sure that Postbox is set as your default email reader. For additional information on setup and use, please see our knowledge base.

Postbox 1.1.2 contains several other improvements, such as faster Gmail access for both Windows and Mac, so please review our release notes for the full list of changes.

• Support for the IMAP COMPRESS extension which makes accessing Gmail faster
• Topics are now exposed via AppleScript
• Migration from Mail.app will now import all of the folders located under “On My Mac”
• Fixed an issue where certain calendar invites from Exchange were not showing up as attachments
• Fixed an issue where the signature was not being placed in the correct place when forwarding
• Fixed an issue where sending to a mailing list could fail
• Fixed an issue where identified text wasn’t displayed properly
• Improved automatic detection of account settings for various ISPs
• Incorporated Mozilla Firefox security updates through version 3.5.8.
