Software update: Opera 8.50 Symbian S60

Norwegian company Opera Software has released a new version of its web browser of the same name for Symbian S60. The version number has arrived at 8.50 and, unlike the versions for a normal computer, is not free to use. If you have previously purchased a license for Opera on Symbian S60, you can upgrade free of charge. For an installation and user manual, we refer you to this page at Opera Software. This Opera version runs only on Symbian OS 7.0 and higher. It will not work on older Symbian 6.1 handsets, such as 7650, 3650, N-Gage, SX1, and Sendo X.

User interface:

  • New password manager for simplified Web site logins
  • Implemented editable keypad shortcuts with actions not available through default shortcuts. Available in the settings
  • Added ability to zoom in on Web pages, available from the “Display” menu and by using keypad shortcut 0
  • Images can now be selected and downloaded without a need for image selection mode
  • New start page with integrated Google search
  • Significant improvements to navigation between page elements (spatial navigation). Scrolling inside iframes fixed
  • Solved multiple issues with form field input handling, including
    • “Cancel” button now works as expected to delete multiple characters if kept pressed
    • Text in input fields can be selected, copied and pasted
    • Solved issue where typing 0 would delete other characters
    • T9 integration issues resolved

  • New languages ​​included in package: Hong Kong Chinese, Indonesian, Russian, and Swedish
  • Added localized URL suffixes

  • Multiple rendering improvements
  • Improved Fit-to-screen mode
