The Sonic the Hedgehog movie, which is being made by Paramount, will hit theaters in the US from November 15, 2019, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It was announced in 2016 that the film would come.

The release date mentioned by The Hollywood Reporter is later than expected. When Sega announced in an interview with The Worldfolio in 2016 that there would be a Sonic movie, there was talk of a release in 2018. At the time, Sega said it was a “live-action and animation” hybrid, indicating that Sonic animated, but that there may also be people and real environments in the film.

Paramount is known to make the film and Jeff Fowler is the director. He has no major productions to his name yet, but did receive an Oscar nomination in 2004 for his short animated film Gopher Broke.

The storyline of the Sonic film is not yet known. The Sega character has appeared in games since 1991. The Mega Drive was the first console to feature a Sonic game. Sega was looking for a new game character, who could also act as a “mascot” for the company to compete with Mario. Eventually that became Sonic the Hedgehog. The game of the same name appeared in June 1991 and the blue hedgehog became the mascot that Sega wanted. Bundling the game with the Mega Drive is seen as a big reason for the console’s success.
