Stability AI, the company behind AI image maker Stable Diffusion, is said to have approached various companies in recent weeks to be taken over. This is reported by the financial news agency Bloomberg. The company denies it.

Stability AI tells Bloomberg that various companies have shown interest in taking over the start-up, but denies that discussions are currently underway. According to Bloomberg sources, Stability AI has, among others, the start-ups Cohere and Jasper as acquisition partners. The takeover would be necessary due to pressure on management due to the company’s financial position. Stability AI continues to run on investor money and loses millions of dollars every month, Bloomberg claims.

In recent years, the company released Stable Diffusion, one of the best-known AI image generators. Recently, the XL version of Stable Diffision was released, which can generate images much faster than previous versions of the model. The SDXL Turbo model is available free for personal use. SDXL Turbo is not yet available for commercial use at the time of writing.
