Samsung has canceled the release of the first Tizen smartphone Samsung Z, according to a Tizen fan site. Instead, the South Korean manufacturer wants to provide cheaper devices with the open source operating system.

Samsung previously postponed the release of the Z smartphone in Russia, but the release is now completely off the track, Tizen Experts say from anonymous sources. Instead, Samsung would focus on cheap devices with Tizen, with type numbers such as Z130H. They will probably run Tizen Lite.

In the meantime, despite years of development, not a single smartphone with Tizen has come onto the market. The announced Samsung Z should have appeared in Russia this summer, while the phone was also scheduled for release in Japan last winter. That didn’t happen at the last minute either.

Tizen is now running on other hardware. For example, last year a camera was released with Tizen, there will be a smart TV with the operating system and various smartwatches from the South Korean electronics giant run on its own operating system.
