IBM has acquired the American security firm Lighthouse Security Group for an undisclosed amount. With the acquisition, the American IT giant wants to improve its position in the market for security software based on identity management.

The American Lighthouse supplies Gateway, an identity and access management package that can run on cloud systems. With Gateway, companies and governments can manage access to services and applications. Gateway and Lighthouse’s other security products will be integrated into its existing security products, which primarily focus on securing cloud environments, according to IBM.

With the acquisition of Lighthouse, in which the parties have not released a purchase amount, IBM wants to strengthen its position in the security software market. The IT giant recently took over CrossIdeas, a company that supplies software similar to Lighthouse. IBM is now the third largest provider of security products and services; only Symantec and McAfee are bigger.
