Olympus’ upcoming high-end system camera, which will probably be the E-M1X, will have a built-in GPS module, a barometer and a thermometer. At least that is what the website 43rumors states based on what the website indicates as a reliable source.

If Olympus actually puts a GPS module, barometer and thermometer in its new camera, as 43rumors claims, that is quite exceptional. GPS modules are actually only built-in as standard in some Pentax DSLRs or are available separately for cameras of this brand. Most camera manufacturers have for years omitted the installation of GPS modules. They often use Bluetooth as an alternative, so that the GPS coordinates can still be added to photos via a connected smartphone.

It is possible that the GPS module in the Olympus camera in combination with the stabilized sensor can be used in a system similar to Pentax’s Astrotracer function, where the sensor is able to operate for several minutes after calibrating the internal compass. to follow the stars by rotating slowly to compensate for the rotation of the earth. Whether Olympus will come up with such a system is unknown.

Olympus will announce a new camera on January 24, according to several official teaser videos. It shows that it is a relatively large camera, which, partly based on the somewhat unusual shape, probably has a built-in battery grip. A new, bright 150-400mm lens for microfour-thirds cameras may also be introduced on January 24.

Like the OM-D E-M1 II, the E-M1X will probably get a 20-megapixel sensor. The new device would be able to take pictures at a speed of 18 frames per second and the image stabilization would have an effectiveness of up to 7.5 stops. The camera would also have a High Res mode that works without a tripod. Multiple photos are combined into one high-resolution image. Based on the alleged specifications and the teaser videos, Olympus is targeting sports and nature photographers with the device. The price would be about 3000 dollars.
