Rumor: AMD to release Zen Summit Ridge chips like SR7, SR5 and SR3

An image of an internal AMD roadmap has leaked showing possible naming schemes and delivery dates of the Zen processors. The processors will be given SR3, SR5 and SR7 designations, reminiscent of Intel’s i3, i5 and i7 names.

WCCFtech found the image on the forum of the Chinese website Chiphell. The image shows a table showing the names and prices of different processors. The chart shows that the new Zen chips will all cost more than 1500 yuan, which is about 200 euros. The SRx naming probably refers to the Summit Ridge name of the Zen processors.

AMD seems to want to bring the top model of the chips, the SR7, to the market first. The SR5 and SR3, which are likely to be cheaper, will appear later. Because it concerns a roadmap for the first half of 2017, the SR3 will probably be released no later than July. Whether the processors use a similar layout to Intel’s Core i3, i5 and i7 chips is not clear. As a rule, Intel uses the name i3 for a dual-core with hyperthreading, i5 for a quad-core without hyper-threading and i7 for quad-cores with hyper-threading and all consumer chips with more than four cores for desktop processors.

The SR7 may be the processor that has sixteen threads with eight cores and simultaneous multithreading. AMD demonstrated this processor at an event in August. According to the manufacturer, the chip can compete with a comparable Intel processor based on the Broadwell architecture.

The SR3 will probably not be comparable to a Core i3, since the starting price of 200 euros is considerably higher than the 120 to 160 euros for which the i3 chips are currently available in the Pricewatch. On Monday, specifications and prices of the upcoming Kaby Lake processors leaked, which, like the Zen chips, will hit the market early next year. The top model of the i3, which runs at 4.2GHz and is presumably overclockable, will have a price tag of $177.34. The cheapest variant is sold for 122.28 dollars.

According to the table, the SR7 appears simultaneously with the Bristol Ridge APUs. Previous rumors suggested that the first Zen processors will be released in February 2017. It can be concluded from this that the Bristol Ridge apus will also become available in that month. The delivery date of those apus was unknown until now. A number of models are already available in systems from HP and Lenovo, but not yet separately.

The leaked table also gives an indication of the prices of the Bristol Ridge chips. The flagship model, the A12-9800, a quad-core processor clocked at 3.8GHz and a turbocharged 4.2GHz, will cost less than 900 yuan. Converted that is about 122 euros. The A10-9700 will cost just under 800 yuan, or about 109 euros. The Athlon 950K, an overclockable A10-9700 without GPU, has a suggested retail price of about 500 yuan, about 68 euros.
