Rocket League players will no longer be able to trade items with each other starting December 5. According to developer Psyonix, this is in accordance with the vision of parent company Epic Games; cosmetic items should not be tradable, transferable or resellable.

Cosmetic items already traded, such as blueprints, skins and car models, remain in the possession of the receiving player, so Psyonix emphasizes, but further exchanges are no longer possible after December 5. According to the developer, this better fits Epic Games’ vision. Furthermore, express reference is made to third-party websites where in-game items have been traded for real money since the introduction of the trading function in 2016. This gray market can therefore no longer continue after that point.

The Rocket League community is often indignant about Psyonix’s decision. On Reddit many players claim that this is a greedy decision, as from now on players can only obtain targeted cosmetic items by purchasing in-game currency from Epic Games. Until now, players could still trade duplicate or unwanted items with each other. The developer emphasizes that duplicate and unwanted items can still be exchanged for any other item via the in-game return system.
