Razer turns off servers for web storage apps from Nextbit Robin smartphone
Razer has decided to shut down the servers that enable the free web storage for apps on the Nextbit Robin smartphone. Each smartphone user has 100GB of online storage in case the phone’s local storage becomes full.
Users can use the Nextbit Robin’s Smart Storage feature until March 1, and photos will be online until April 1. After that, Razer removes the data from the servers and users can no longer access their data, according to an email from the manufacturer that Reddit user CampAsAChamp published. It is unknown how many users are currently using the Smart Storage feature.
With Smart Storage, the software automatically removes little-used apps from the phone when the storage becomes full. The installation files and data from apps are still online on the manufacturer’s servers. The software makes the icon gray to show that the app is no longer stored locally. Also, users can use Smart Storage to backup photos online.
Nextbit saw Smart Storage as the Robin’s main feature. The Nextbit Robin came out in early 2016 and never got a successor. Razer bought Nextbit and released the Razer Phone late last year.
