Proton increases the price of monthly VPN subscription by 1.50 euros as of July 1
Proton is increasing the monthly price of its paid VPN service ProtonVPN Plus to 11.50 euros. Previously it was 10 euros. The price increase will take effect on July 1 and only applies to new subscribers.
Proton blames the price increase in a blog post to the ‘dramatic’ increase in server costs. In addition, the VPN company says that the number of countries where it has servers in use has doubled in the past few years to 68. In total is it about 2980 servers. Proton says it does not like to increase the price, but says it has no choice due to the higher costs. In addition, the higher price should give the VPN provider the opportunity to invest in new features and performance improvements for the service, Proton writes.
The higher price only applies to new subscriptions. Users who take out a Plus subscription before July 1 will continue to pay the regular monthly price of 10 euros. The price increase also does not apply to users who immediately purchase a one- or two-year subscription. These cost 71.88 and 119.76 euros respectively, or 5.99 and 4.99 euros per month.
