An American provider has put the Samsung Galaxy J3 2017 online, the successor to the J3 2016. According to analyst firm Strategy Analytics, that device was Samsung’s best-selling Galaxy smartphone in recent months.

Just like its predecessor, the Galaxy J3 2017 has a 5″ screen with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels. The product page does not specify whether it is an LCD or an OLED screen. The J3 2016 has an OLED screen and it happens rarely that Samsung then gives a successor an LCD.

The soc is a Samsung Exynos 7570, a 14nm quad-core with four Cortex A53 processors at 1.4GHz and a Mali T720 GPU from ARM. Samsung adds 1.5GB of lpdrr3 memory. The emmc storage has a capacity of 16GB and can be expanded with microSD cards with a maximum of 256GB.

The battery has a capacity of 2600mAh. The phone measures 141x70mm and is 8.6mm thick, with a weight of 148g. The device has a back with a horizontal strip in a different color over the camera. That camera is equipped with a 5-megapixel sensor with ‘beauty’ mode to brighten up the photos. The front camera has a maximum resolution of two megapixels. The software runs on Android 7.0 Nougat.

AT&T offers the device for $179. Converted to euros and with VAT on top, the price in euros would be around 199 euros. That is in line with the suggested retail price of the Galaxy J3 2016.

Analyst firm Strategy Analytics recently put information online about the best-selling phones in the first quarter of 2017. The Galaxy J3 2016 was in fourth place, behind the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and Oppo R9s.
