Cyberpunk 2077 is getting an expansion pack that should also change core aspects of the base game, including the rewards and skill systems and in-car combat. Players who own the original version of Cyberpunk 2077 will automatically receive the updates.

Creative director Pawel Sasko let VideoGamesChronicle know that virtually no system from the original game remains unchanged. Scheduled to be released in September, Phantom Liberty will add a new district to Night City called Dog Town. Players can access the district through existing save games.

The rewards and skills system has been completely rebuilt in Phantom Liberty. This changes the way players progress in the game. According to Sasko, the difficulty curve is different, as are the loot drops. Furthermore, players can receive special upgrade points in the new region for certain new skills in the skill tree. The changes should lead to more variation in the game.

Vehicle combat has also been added, allowing for car chases. Players now have more options to battle enemies while driving or use armed vehicles with cannons or rifles on board.

According to Sasko, the artificial intelligence in the game has also been expanded and the police system has been rebuilt from the ground up. That police system now has several levels with various enemies chasing the player. Those enemies differ depending on where the player is in the game.
